The brief for this job was simple and right up our street - create a garden room incorporating as many wildlife features as possible.

The design incorporated bug hotels, bee habitat, hedgehog hibernacla, swallow nest boxes and bat habitat. We lived in a caravan during construction but spent many a cosy evening in there once we had installed the log burner.

This project is a good example of adding small creative details that make a difference to the client and make us happy too! We also went on to build a curving brick wall with gothic arches and create a beautiful patio and steps.

One of the two bug hotels set into the exterior walls which are clad with waney edge larch and painted black to match the local venacular. Intermitant gaps were left to create bat habitat.

Internal oak leaf design detail in the centre of the roof. Externally we added an acorn finial with oak leaves cut and bent from lead.

The internal space is warm and welcoming with the herringbone oak lath walls, log burner, comfy bench storage and designer lights.

I designed the lantern lights to reflect the surrounding landscape with swallows flying through and created it using glass paints. The design is then reflected onto the walls as the sun moves around.

The 22m gothic wall under construction. The focus on each garden space and the landscape beyond is to encourage wildlife, creating a variety of habitats and act as inspiration for future generations.
